The Rx Review: Reporting on Fitness and CrossFit News, John Michael Bric

The 2016 CrossFit season might still be a few weeks away, but athletes across the world are now able to secure their spot in this year’s competition.

Registration for the 2016 CrossFit Open (the first stage of qualifying for the CrossFit Games) is now live, with HQ opening up the rego space this morning.

To enter, all you need to do is head over to the Registration page on the CrossFit Games website by clicking here, pay your $20 registration fee and then fill out all the particulars.

In 2015, more than 270,000 competed in the CrossFit Games Open, and just as it has every year since the Open began in 2011, that number is expected to increase again in 2016!

Here is a look at the dates for the 2016 CrossFit Open and some important info for this year’s global online competition:

The Open start date: February 25, 2016.

Week 1 (16.1) – February 25 – 29
Week 2 (16.2) – March 3 – 7
Week 3 (16.3) – March 10 – 14
Week 4 (16.4) – March 17 – 21
Week 5 (16.5) – March 24 – 28

  • Workouts must be completed at a participating CrossFit affiliate in front of a judge, or filmed from anywhere you want as long as link of proof is submitted.
  • Each week’s workout will be released Thursday at 5 p.m. PT, and scores are due four days later (before 5 p.m. PT Monday). You are free to make as many attempts at the Open workout as you please; your only limit is time.
  • Each time a workout is released, athletes will be given two versions: Rx’d and Scaled. With reduced loading or less challenging movements, the scaled option will be designed to make the Open even more accessible.
  • There are four divisions in 2016: Individual, Team, Masters (ages 40+) and Teenage (ages 14-17).

It’s an exciting time of year and we here at The Rx Review wish everyone the best of luck! Oh and remember, no “Bro Reps” please!
